It Starts With Staff Selection

Maturity and Understanding
  • All Camp Kinneret senior staff members are college age and older.

  • Each group of 11-14 campers has one senior counselor and a co-counselor (graduating high school senior) or CILT (high school leadership intern).

  • The Camp Kinneret staff also includes instructional specialists. Specialists are hired not only for their nurturing, fun and caring nature, but also for their ability to teach in their specialty areas. These areas include:

  • Swim Instructor Lifeguards
  • Petting Farm Animals and Ponies
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Nature Education/Crafts
  • Music/Drama
  • Gymnastics/Tumbling/Movement
  • Rock Climbing
  • Offsite Hiking & Exploration
  • Woodworking
  • High Ropes Challenge Course

Selecting the Right Staff

All returning staff are re-interviewed each year- Staff members who desire to return to camp are re-interviewed by the directors each year. These hour long meetings lay a foundation for the commitment and dedication required to be a returning Camp Kinneret staff member. These carefully chosen leaders are selected for their ability to work with campers and desire to perpetuate the camp staff culture that is at the heart of Camp Kinneret.

New Staff: A Multi-Step Process- We work throughout the year to create the largest possible pool of staff applicants in order to find the select few that will fill approximately 30 vacant positions each year (out of a total of approximately 70 senior staff). Our selection process includes the following:

Camp Staff
  • Receipt of over 600 staff applications annually.
  • Meeting approximately 270 applicants in small personal group interviews of approximately 6-10 participants.
  • Follow up individual interviews with one of the camp directors.
  • Reference checks through personal phone calls. (We speak personally with references and don't just rely on letters submitted by applicants.)
  • Professional criminal background checks
  • A check of the California Justice Department's Child Molester Registry.
  • Enrollment in our drug testing program

The result of this process is the selection of a group of mature, highly dedicated, caring leaders that are anxious to create camp experiences that are fun and a whole lot more!
